This small Cape Cod style home is located on Barnegat Island, New Jersey. It consists of a commercial space on the first floor and a 500 square foot apartment on the second floor. It received extensive water damage during Hurricane Sandy and the owners decided to raise the structure 42" to comply with current FEMA requirements. A decorative base of alternating widths of wood boards was installed over the new foundation. This creates visual interest and helps move your eye around the building creating a dynamic affect. The upstairs apartment was renovated and the ceiling was raised to give the very small living area a greater sense of space. Painted wood boards move your eye upwards to the new round window. A small but elegant kitchen is at one corner and a built-in seating area is at the other end of the living space.
