BOERUM HILL NEST

This project was designed to accommodate the needs of a young family seeking additional space. Originally configured as a two-family townhouse with a one-bedroom basement apartment, the house was thoughtfully converted into a single-family residence. Structural steel beams were installed in the ceilings to create an open and flowing living area, centered around a wet bar featuring salvaged wood shelving that adds warmth and character. The full bathroom was enlarged for greater functionality, and a new bathroom was introduced to serve the expanded living quarters. The cellar was renovated to incorporate a laundry area, enhancing the home’s practicality. An open staircase was designed to visually and physically connect the new living space with the rest of the house, fostering a sense of unity throughout the home. Additional custom millwork includes a built-in coat closet with bench seating and bespoke bookcases, blending functionality with thoughtful design. This project was executed as a DOB Alt 1, culminating in the issuance of a new Certificate of Occupancy.
