WEST VILLAGE COMBINATION
Horrigan O'Malley was honored to be commissioned for the fourth time to work on a landmarked apartment building in the West Village. The clients approached the firm with the goal of combining their existing two-bedroom apartment with an adjacent one-bedroom unit to create a more spacious and cohesive home.
The design involved removing the party wall between the two apartments, opening up an expansive living and dining area that enhances flow and natural light. The kitchen was thoughtfully reconfigured to allow for more generous circulation and ease of use around appliances, improving functionality without sacrificing style.
For the new dining area, the couple commissioned an artist to create a custom stone mosaic backsplash, which was installed above a bespoke cherry wood buffet designed specifically for the space. This artistic feature became a distinctive focal point, blending craftsmanship with contemporary design.
The master suite was transformed by combining an existing bathroom and kitchen from the adjacent unit, creating a large, luxurious master bath paired with an adjacent custom walk-in closet. Additional upgrades include a discreet washer/dryer installation and custom cabinetry integrated into the windows, adding both convenience and refined detailing.
