BEACH BABY
This small Cape Cod style home is located on Barnegat Island, New Jersey. It consists of a first floor commercial space and a second floor 550 square foot apartment. It received extensive water damage during Hurricane Sandy and the owners decided to raise the structure 42" to comply with current FEMA requirements. A decorative base of alternating widths of wood boards was installed over the new foundation. This creates visual interest and helps move your eye around the building creating a dynamic affect. The upstairs apartment was renovated and the ceiling was raised to give the very small living area a greater sense of space. Painted wood boards move your eye upwards to the new round window. A small but elegant kitchen is at one corner and a built-in seating area is at the other end of the living space.
