BUCKS COUNTY RETREAT

A New York City couple, longtime clients of Horrigan O'Malley, commissioned the firm once again to renovate their Bucks County country retreat. The project involved a partial gut renovation and an interior redesign focused on casual, open living.
Central to the living area is a large stone fireplace, which was visually enhanced by removing surrounding walls to create a seamless flow between the kitchen, dining, living room, and study. This open layout fosters fluid circulation and connectivity throughout the home. A previously concealed stone wall in the kitchen was exposed, serving as a striking backsplash and balancing the opposite stone fireplace, anchoring the spacious interior.
To create a more expansive feel, the original low ceilings were removed, and the gable ends were clad in warm pine shiplap, adding texture and character to the space. The master bathroom was transformed with a generous stall shower and the addition of a pocket door, enhancing both space and functionality.
Outdoor living was significantly expanded by installing French doors along the perimeter, seamlessly connecting the interior with a new terrace. On the opposite side of the home, a patio with a large in-ground pool provides an inviting space for relaxation and entertaining.
This renovation beautifully balances rustic charm with modern comfort, creating a welcoming retreat that embraces both indoor and outdoor living.
