BUCKS COUNTY RETREAT
A New York city couple who previously commissioned Horrigan O'Malley to renovate their Manhattan apartment hired the firm again to renovate their Buck's County country retreat. The home was partially gutted and its interior was redesigned for casual living. Walls were removed around the large stone fireplace that anchors the living room, allowing the kitchen/dining/living area to flow into the study which enhances the fluid circulation through the interior. An existing stone wall at the kitchen was exposed creating an interesting backsplash as well as anchoring the large open space with the opposite stone fireplace. To give the home a roomier feel, the existing low ceilings were removed and the gable ends were clad in pine ship-lap. A lavish stall shower in the new master bathroom lends the bathroom more space, as did the addition of a pocket door. The home's outdoor livable space was expanded substantially by installing french doors along the perimeter connecting the interior to a new terrace. A patio for lounging with large in-ground pool is located on the home's other side.
