PROSPECT PARK WEST BOUTIQUE CONDOMINIUMS
This landmarked limestone mansion, originally designed as a single-family home by architect Axel Hedman in 1884, underwent a significant transformation after decades of change and neglect. Converted into eight apartments in the 1950s and later abandoned in the 1980s, the building was purchased by Horrigan Development and meticulously renovated into five luxury condominiums overlooking Prospect Park.
Due to over fifty years of deferred maintenance, the project required a full structural and mechanical gut renovation. The interiors were completely gutted to accommodate modern systems while preserving the building’s classic turn-of-the-century elegance. Interior moldings and wainscoting were carefully cataloged, restored, and reintegrated to honor the historic character of the mansion. Missing appliqués and brackets on the building’s massive seven-foot-high cornice were painstakingly recreated and installed to match the original detailing.
Each condominium was designed to blend timeless architectural elements with contemporary open-plan living, and outdoor spaces were thoughtfully created for every unit—whether a garden, terrace, or rooftop deck. The rear of the building was excavated to introduce additional natural light and provide garden views to the basement level, enhancing the sense of openness and connection to the outdoors.
